The world of confectionery and craftsmanship is constantly evolving, following fads, trends and styles that are always being updated. Morgaine Gaye, a food futurologist by profession, predicts and anticipates what we'll love to eat in the coming months, and this year she has compiled a top 10 list of desserts that will be fashionable in this 2022.
The professional, together with a group of world experts of sweets, has drawn up the Trend Report 2022, a research on the pastry creations that will be most loved this year, under commission of Baileys, a well-known Dublin-based company that produces the famous liqueur made of whiskey and milk cream. This survey has already been in existence for three years and proves it always has to go beyond the pastry counter.
- Candy? Yes, please! American-style reinterpretation of the classic doughnut, in a much more mouth-watering key. Cut in half, it is in fact filled with ice cream and stuffed with creams and sweet sauces, often covered with icing.
- Sculpture-sweets! Sweets and articulated, almost architectural preparations are landing in the world's kitchens and pastry shops: the new master pastry chefs and cooks are working on techniques and preparations to produce real edible works of art.
- War of "snowballs"! Glazed with sugar or white or dark chocolate, covered with coconut flakes, these super vintage pastries, in vogue in Italy in the 1980s and known as chocolate "flames", will be all the rage.
- Ice cream cone what a passion! Prepared with nut granules or made with churros paste, in 2022 the ice cream cone will undergo a makeover. Big or small, as long as they are garnished and super-filled.
- The sweet-salty stick! After the pretzel trend in 2021, we're continuing in the same vein this year with stick-shaped pretzels. The sweet-salty combination continues to please a lot, creating a typical street food effect.
- Glitter parade! For the joy of the most fashionable palates could not miss the edible glitter. Well, yes. We will see them in all shapes and colors and above all we will taste them. Because they will give a "touch of magic" to many desserts.
- Mother-nature effect! Lots of cakes and desserts inspired by elements that celebrate the beauty of nature, including minerals, in sophisticated creations that take their shapes.
- The cookie-cake! They are snikerdoodles, cookies with a soft cake-like dough. Super soft inside and sprinkled with cinnamon or sugar on the surface.
- Pop colors! Color galore in this 2022, with purple corn ice cream and red beet brownies for a sea of color!
- Nuts galore! Nuts and peanuts will be a real catchphrase, used in desserts as toppings, in doughs and even as flour. They will give an intense and lively flavor to even the most basic dessert preparations.
